Normal vs Caesarean Delivery

· 2 min read

There are two main ways to give birth: vaginal (normal) delivery and caesarean section. Neither is automatically “better” — the right choice depends on your pregnancy, your health and your baby’s wellbeing, and it is discussed with you in advance.

Vaginal (normal) delivery

In a vaginal birth, the baby is born through the birth canal. For most healthy pregnancies it is the default, with a shorter hospital stay and recovery. Pain relief options are available and discussed as part of your birth plan.

Caesarean section

A caesarean is an operation to deliver the baby through the abdomen and womb. It may be:

  • Planned (elective) — arranged in advance for medical reasons or, in some cases, by choice.
  • Unplanned (emergency) — if problems arise during labour that make it the safest option.

Our delivery service supports both, with surgical care in partnership with Acıbadem, a JCI-accredited hospital group.

How the choice is made

Factors include the baby’s position, your health and any pregnancy complications, the placenta’s position, and previous births. For higher-risk or multiple pregnancies, the plan is individualised. Your obstetrician explains the options and your preferences are part of the decision.

Recovery

Recovery after a vaginal birth is generally quicker. After a caesarean, expect a longer hospital stay and several weeks of recovery, as it is major surgery. Your team gives you clear aftercare and follow-up.

The most important thing

A safe birth for mother and baby is the priority. Plans can change during labour, and your team will always explain why if a different path becomes the safest one.
