This page provides general information and does not replace a medical consultation. Please consult your physician about your individual situation.

Expecting parents need to make important decisions about delivery options. The clinic assists in developing personalized birth plans suited to individual needs.

Experienced gynecology specialists and obstetricians explain all available options and arrange delivery care. They provide comprehensive support during labor, including necessary medical interventions.

Why Choose an Obstetrician

An obstetrician offers specialist care during labor and can perform interventions like Caesarean sections. Having an experienced professional present increases confidence and ensures proper care for complicated deliveries or high-risk situations.

Obstetrician supervision is recommended for high-risk pregnancies, midwife-recommended medical oversight, elective Caesarean procedures, and deliveries requiring specialist intervention.

What to Expect

Each birth is unique, so support is customized to individual needs. Pre-birth consultations cover birth options, pain relief methods, potential interventions, and personalized birth planning.

During labor, the obstetrician ensures comfort, provides appropriate pain management, maintains clear communication with parents, and performs necessary procedures including labor induction, assisted delivery, or emergency Caesarean sections when required.

Childbirth with UCARER at Acıbadem Hospital, Bahçeşehir

Your birth is attended by one of the clinic’s two experienced obstetrician–gynaecologists, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Uçarer and Op. Dr. Meryem Gökkaya Uçarer, who together have more than three decades of experience and over 20,000 births. A female obstetrician (Dr. Meryem) is available if you prefer one. Deliveries take place at the JCI-accredited Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul, an international-standard facility with advanced support for mother and newborn.

Continuity: the doctor who follows you also delivers you

The obstetrician who follows your pregnancy is the one present at your birth — the same familiar specialist from your first visit through delivery and your postnatal check-up. Your pregnancy follow-up is described on our antenatal care page.

Vaginal birth and cesarean

Both vaginal birth and cesarean section are supported. The mode of birth is decided together with your obstetrician based on medical findings and your circumstances, following international guidelines (ACOG, RCOG) and the Turkish Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (TJOD). If your pregnancy needs closer monitoring, see our high-risk pregnancy care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Vaginal delivery (spontaneous or induced) and planned Caesarean section are both offered. The safest delivery mode for mother and baby is determined through assessment of obstetric history, current pregnancy findings, fetal position, and patient preference — with full, transparent discussion.

Options include epidural analgesia (the most effective, with no proven harm to the baby), Entonox (gas and air), pethidine injection, and water immersion. An epidural can be started at any point during labour and does not increase Caesarean section rates.

Induction stimulates labour to begin artificially — using a prostaglandin pessary, balloon catheter, or oxytocin drip — when continuing the pregnancy poses a risk to mother or baby. Common indications include post-dates pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, IUGR, and ruptured membranes without labour onset.

A birth plan outlines your preferences for labour — pain relief, monitoring, positions, companion presence, Caesarean risk threshold, and postnatal care. While labour rarely follows a fixed script, discussing preferences in advance helps the team understand and respect your wishes. Flexibility is important.

Delayed cord clamping (1–3 minutes) is performed where possible. Skin-to-skin contact is encouraged immediately. The third stage (placenta delivery) is managed with an oxytocin injection. A thorough postnatal check of mother and baby is carried out before transfer to the ward.
