Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape or reduce the labia (the folds of skin around the vaginal opening), most often to relieve physical discomfort or to address appearance concerns that affect wellbeing. At UCARER Women's Health (Uçarer Kadın Sağlığı) in Istanbul, labiaplasty is performed by Op. Dr. Meryem Gökkaya Uçarer, an experienced gynaecological surgeon certified in aesthetic gynaecology and a member of TJOD. Every case begins with a private medical consultation.
Why someone might consider labiaplasty
- Physical discomfort during exercise, cycling, intercourse or with certain clothing
- Irritation or hygiene-related concerns
- Appearance concerns that affect confidence or wellbeing
- Asymmetry, or changes after childbirth
Labiaplasty is a personal decision. At consultation we discuss whether it is appropriate for you — and whether a non-surgical option, or no procedure, is the better choice.
How the procedure works
- Consultation & assessment — your concerns, anatomy and goals are reviewed privately.
- The procedure — performed under local or general anaesthesia depending on the case; excess labial tissue is carefully reshaped. Surgical support is provided within our partner Acıbadem hospital network (an internationally recognised, JCI-accredited group — in collaboration).
- Recovery — most people return to daily activities within a short period and avoid strenuous activity/intercourse for a few weeks, as advised. Specific aftercare is explained to you.
Honest expectations & risks
- Results vary between individuals; we do not promise a "perfect" appearance, and we do not use before/after imagery.
- As with any surgery, there are risks (for example swelling, bruising, discomfort, or rarely healing issues). These are explained fully before you decide.
- Realistic goals and informed consent are part of every consultation.
